In a world where people’s attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, consistency might serve as a pillar to help you get things done because it fosters self-discipline and concentration.

A few days ago, a friend of mine mentioned that one of the things they appreciated about me was that I was constant. In response, I joked cheekily that it would be simple to kidnap me because my daily routines are always the same.

I indeed do my best to maintain consistency. People who show up no matter the circumstances are some of my favourites because I view their consistency as a form of spiritual discipline, which is why I admire them. If you asked me who I look up to in marketing, I would say Seth Godin since he has consistently published new content on his blog for the past 20+ years.

Consistency is crucial in every pursuit, whether academic, athletic, or creative. It’s not easy to be consistent, but it’s a character trait worth developing. Maintaining a steady routine is crucial to reaching your goals because it fosters self-discipline and concentration.

Why consistency?

Repeating the same ways to make decisions can help build discipline, which is precisely what consistency does. Making good choices becomes routine, reinforcing that behaviour and encouraging further good decisions. Everyone benefits from this because it facilitates continued progress toward shared goals.

To be consistent, you have to ignore distractions and focus only on the work at hand, which is good for improving your ability to focus. This is useful because it makes it more likely that the essential chores will be finished and less time will be wasted on unimportant matters.

Those are just a few of the many benefits I’ve experienced from establishing and sticking to regular habits and routines, and if I haven’t already convinced you to give it a shot, let me tell you that while doing so can improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being and help you reach your goals, it’s not easy to get started.
